College of Art is an institution established in 1942 for advanced training in Visual Art leading to the Bachelor of Fine Art degree of the University of Delhi. The college is under the Faculty of Music & Fine Art for academic matters and is wholly administered by the Govt of NCT of Delhi.
1. Designs for the festivals, Souvenir, Invitation cards, Posters etc. for the 9th International Childrens' Festival of Performing Arts organized by Ryan International were made by students of 4th year Applied Art, Kalida Arora and Rakesh Baidya in 2008-09. 2. Design for the Maruti Suzuki National Road Safety Mission, an initiative by Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, and the design for the 'IVFE' Logo were made by Shivi Pal, 3rd year Applied Art. 3. A certificate of Recognition and Commendation and a Trophy for appreciable participation and contribution in Sankalp Utsav (Bhagidari) organized by the Government of NCT of Delhi were awarded to the College of Art, New Delhi in 2009.
Shri Tejendra Khanna, Hon'ble Lt.Governor, Delhi, inaugurated the 56th Annual Art Exhibition of the College on 17th March,2009, in the premises. The other dignitaries who graced the occassion were Smt.Uma Khanna, Dr.G.Narendra Kumar, Secretary, Dte.of Training & Technical Education, Govt of NCT of Delhi, Dr.Anjali Mittal, Dean, Faculty of Music & Fine Art, University of Delhi, and, Shri N.N.Srivastava, alumnus of the College (Batch of 1952).
The annual National level Seminar cum Workshop was hosted by the College from 22nd to 26th September, 2008, in which 56 senior Fine Art students from 12 premier Art Colleges in the country were invited to participate, interact and work in various mediums along with Faculty and students of the College. The event was inaugurated by Hon'ble Justice Mr.Kailash Gambhir, Judge, High Court, Delhi, in the College premises. Dr.Nayanjot Lahiri, Dean (Colleges), University of Delhi, graced the Valedictory Ceremony on 26th and gave away the Participation Certificates.
The Convocation Ceremony for the student batches of BFA and MFA (of academic session 2007) was held on 18th December, 2008, in the College premises. UstadAmjad Ali Khan, the Sarod Maestro, delivered the Convocation Address. The other dignitaries who graced the occassion were Prof.S.K.Vij, Dean (Students' Welfare), University of Delhi, Prof.Anjali Mittal, Dean, Faculty of Music & Fine Art, University of Delhi, and Shri Benoy K.Behl, eminent Art Hisotrian, Photographer and Film Maker.
The College undertook the Annual Educational Tours in two groups for the IIIrd Year Specialilzations classes of the three disciplines. Group-I (Painting & Sculpture) from 11th January to 3rd February, 2009, was led by Sh,Kripal Singh, Asstt.Professor and accompanied by Sh.K.Ramesh, Lecturer, Sh.R.K.Panwar, Jr.Artist, and29 students. Group-II (Applied Art) was led by Sh.R.S.Dey, Lecturer and accompanied by Dr.B.C.Chauhan, Sh.Kumar Jigeeshu, Lecturers, Sh.Gurudev Sharma, Demonstrator cum Technician, Sh.Pryag Sharma, Dark Room Asstt, and 66 students.The tours were to sites of artistic and man-made wonders in the States of Gujarat, Daman, Goa, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Smt.Sheila Dikshit, Hon'ble Chief Minister, Govt of NCT of Delhi, visited the display area of Paintings and Sculptures made by students of the College of Art and interacted with the students and faculty at the Sankalp Utsav (Bhagidari) organised by the Govt of NCT of Delhi at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, on 21st & 22nd February, 2009.
The newly constructed Additional Blocks were dedicated to the College by Smt.Sheila Dikshit, Hon'ble Chief Minister, Govt of NCT of Delhi, on 8th March, 2008. The other dignitaries who graced the occassion were Padma Vibhushan Shri Satish Gujral, eminent artist and the Designer of the Additional Blocks, Smt B.Prasad, then Principal Secretary, PWD, Govt of NCT of Delhi, Dr.G.Narendra Kumar, Secretary, Dte. of Training & Technical Education, Govt of NCT of Delhi, Prof.O.P.Sharma, former Principal, Profs N.C.Sengupta and Paramjeet Slingh, former Officiating Principals, College of Art, New Delhi.
